Range and Average of Financial Assistance

Average Federal cash and for school year 2001 was 121.2 cents per meal and ranged from 5.0 cents for "paid" snacks to 219.00 cents for free lunches in school districts serving more than 60 percent free and reduced price lunches. State grants vary according to participation in the program.
